Quick, convenient and direct.
A recent short visit at the Namib Desert Environmental Education Trust (NaDEET) has taught us the fine art of solar cooking. A delicious Shepard's Pie was prepared in a solar oven. Cooked to perfection using nothing but the sun's direct energy. A tour of the NaDEET centre rounded off the short visit. Well done the Victoria and Andreas Keding for building an amazing project and a wonderful education centre to teach Namibian communities and school groups to live better with less recourses.>

During the HAN (Hospitality Assosiation of Namibia) COASTAL CLEAN-UP on Saturday morning, our team of 5 collected 152kg of recyclable waste in just 3 hours. We trageted the area between the B2 and the railway line just at the entrance of Swakopmund. This made our team the undisputed winner, the second place weight in with 123kg.
But instead of being proud, we were actually disgusted that there was so much garbage in the first place. We picked up single use plastic bags, plastic from costruction sites, glass and plastic bottles, paper and other waste. Besides the recycable waste, we also collected a few bags of not recyclable waste. So many styrofoam cups and containers from fast food outlets.
Thank you Nick, Bawden, Ernst, Gerson who joined me and who offered their time for a good cause.
For the first time our two new 9 seater Safari vehicles are working together. These two new vehicles have been custom build locally in Swakopmund. Based on the popular Ford Ranger 2.2l 4x4 Diesel pick up, both vehicles are powerful and perform great in the dunes under full load.
9 individual guets seats with seat belts, big sliding windows and PA-system make for a comfortable guest experience.
Our growing business in Swakopmund is looking for a dynamic young person to join our team. Here is what we are looking for:
I have always thought that beeing awarded a TripAdvisor certificate of Excellence I would get some kind of automated email notification. But instead I just noticed that on our Trip Advisor site for Charly's Desert Tours there it was.
Anyway, we are thrilled to have been awarded the Certificate of Exellence for 2016.
The morning was misty but the weather cleared just before we arrived at the beach. Beautifully laid and decorated tables awaited us in the shade and shelter of a bedouin tent. This was a private setting for just a small group. A glass of sparkling wine before lunch and then we were treated to a fantastic seafood meal in good company. A cup of coffee and a huge and delicious desert and no one wanted to leave.
Everybody should experience this some day. Our Living Dunes Experience with crayfish lunch on the beach provied travelers with that opportunity. We start at 8h30 from any Swakopmund accomodation for the popular Living Dunes Experience in search of the "little 5" in the dunes and end at about 12h00 on the beach for lunch.
Book it online or contact our office. ( Minimum of 4 guets required )
It looks like we have discovered a new attraction in the dunes of the Namib Desert. Whilst most of our competitors offer to show the "Little 5", we frequently find another creature out there and can now offer "Little 6" tours in the dunes. This one even has a good sense of humor too. Meet master tracker Johnny.
Johnny has so many years of experience in the dunes, we have stopped counting. Come travel with him on our "Living Dunes Experience".
Charly's Desert Tours has introduced a online booking system. From today on, guests can check availibility and make bookings for our scheduled day and half day tours directly online 24/7. As a service to our customers, not only our own tours are bookable online in future, but we are in the process of linking some our our activity partners too. Pelican Point Kayaking is the first who has been linked on our website. Other activity partners will follow with time.
We have even linked our online booking system to our Facebook site, so guets can now book directly from the Facebook site.
Reading the below email yesterday made my day. It is so rewarding to receive feedback like this from a guest, and the guides of course felt very good when I read I made tham read the email.
"I have done a number of short tours in my life and most is a money making racket run by people with no passion for the tour and only a passion for the money.
I was pleasantly surprised by your service, however.
The pick-up was on time and friendly, the tour guides (Nick and John) were professional and very knowledgeable of their subject matter, making the trip both fun and informative. On the trip, there was also a family with three kids who was a bit rambunctious but your guides handled the situation very well, drawing the kids in and getting their attention and in a firm but friendly manner kept them occupied, ensuring they do not harm the creatures being shown to us.
I also rated your service on tripadvisor and posted four pics.
Thank you once again and I will do this trip again in a month or two when my wife will accompany me." Jakes K.
The Sand-diving Lizard (Meroles Anchietae) is a fast day active little creature that normally runs away from any potential danger at high speedsand dives head first into the sand to dissapear. But when he is angy, he becomes a mean fighting machine that does not seem to be intimidated by size.
The Sanddiving lizard is one of the "little 5" we search for on our popular LIVING DUNES EXPERIENCE day tour outside Swakopmund.
A new combo DUNES & BEACH is a exclusive experience for small private groups of 4 to 8 guests. A genuine coastal treat with warm Namibian hospitality. The morning hours are spend in search of the "little 5" in the dunes of the Namib Desert just outside Swakopmund. Our guides/ trackers will show you the all the hidden and mostely nocturnal creaturs and intruduce you the the beauty of the dunes. At about 12h00 the tour will end on the beach where a delicious crayfish lunch awaits under a shady bedouin tent. The menu includes sparkling wine and fresh West Coast Lobster.
A truely amazing blend of experiences for just N$ 1450.00 per person (min. of 4 guets required).
Pre bookings are essential at least 7 days before booking date.
2015 has been a great year and we have achieved a lot. It also has been a pretty exhausting year. So we have decided to close the business for two weeks early in the new year. During this time we will have no access to email and our telephone will be answered by a robot.
In other words we are going to do holiday as we did in the old days, no cell phone, no beeing on call all the time, not chained to the ipad for emails 24/7. Just holiday like our parents did. We will spend this time with family and friends, laugh a lot, eat a lot and probably sometimes drink a lot too.
So when we come back we will be full of energy again to take on all the challenges of 2016. Our office will be opened again on 18 January 2016, then we will attend to emails and messages.
I trust everyone understands and respects our holiday.
In the future Santa may just get a new sleigh, it will have a total of 9 seats plus one for the sleigh driver (we also call them tour guides). It will have large windows on the sides, front and at the back to show off our paradise called Namib Desert. Two doors on the side will allow easy access to our guests.
Reindeers will be replaced by a brand new Ford Ranger 4x4 with more kilowatt power than what Santa has ever dreamt about. Unfortunately this sleigh will not be able to fly, but that is OK because non of our guide are in possession of a pilots license anyway.
Lot's of work is still to be done, and we anticipate the maiden voyage to take place sometime in February 2016.
The last two weeks we were kept pretty busy by so many Cruise Ships visiting Walvisbay. One after the other, on some day's even two at the same time, and we had guests on all of them. We saw an increasing number of direct bookings and had a great time travelling with our guests. A big thank you also to Abenteuer Afrika Safari for always envolving our guides and our vehicles. This coming weekend we will see another two cruise ships visiting, so Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be pretty busy again.
