“Kayaking @ Bird Rock” is a fun activity, where guests actually kayak.
Let me explain: There are two different kayaking locations and today there are many different operators offering kayaking. The one excursion in at Pelican Point, where guests enjoy the playful seals while sitting in a kayak. The other, the one that we operate takes place at “Bird Rock” aka “Bird Island”, between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. Here, on most days we encounter some seals too, but this activity is actually much more focused on kayaking, as we cover 2.5 to 3 kilometers distance. No prior experience is needed and guests don’t have to be fit, but is much more a work out than just watching the seals at Pelican Point.
Don’t get me wrong, this is not a strenuous work-out, but rather a leisurely paddle with frequents stops where the guides shares lots of interesting information on the history of the area and the marine environment.
The key differences between the two kayaking options are:
Leaving Swakopmund at 7h00 with your own transport OR pick up from your Swakopmund accommodation at 9h00 after enjoying a leisurely breakfast, you are on holiday after all
Total driving time to launch site 1.5 hours OR 20 minutes
Seal watching while sitting on a kayak and doing very little actual kayaking OR getting a little exercise while learning much about the local history and marine environment
Returning back to Swakopmund only by 13h30 OR returning by 12h00 and still being able to continue your safari to another destination or even having enough time for another afternoon activity.
